Donnarumma to Man City: Italian Star Seals Blockbuster Move from PSG

Manchester City have finalized a deal to sign Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.

The agreement marks a significant moment in the summer transfer window, with the 26-year-old shot-stopper set to join Pep Guardiola’s project at the Etihad Stadium.

Donnarumma is scheduled to undergo his medical this afternoon, paving the way for his official unveiling as a Manchester City player.

Donnarumma has been one of the most dramatic of the 2025 summer window. After weeks of speculation, negotiations between Manchester City and PSG have reached a successful conclusion.

While initial reports suggested PSG were holding out for a €50 million fee, sources indicate Manchester City secured the deal for a figure closer to €25-30 million, a bargain considering Donnarumma’s contract was set to expire in June 2026.

The move comes as PSG manager Luis Enrique opted for a new goalkeeping profile, signing Lucas Chevalier from Lille and sidelining Donnarumma, despite the Italian’s pivotal role in PSG’s historic 2024-25 treble, including their first-ever Champions League title.

Donnarumma’s agent, Enzo Raiola, expressed frustration with PSG’s handling of the situation, stating, “We are shocked by PSG’s behavior with Gigio. There’s zero respect by the club after four years together.”

Gianluigi Donnarumma, widely regarded as one of the world’s elite goalkeepers, rose to prominence at AC Milan, where he became the second-youngest goalkeeper to debut in Serie A at just 16 years and 242 days.

After six years with Milan, he joined PSG on a free transfer in 2021, signing a five-year contract worth €12 million per season after tax. His tenure in Paris was marked by stellar performances, including a Yashin Trophy win in 2021 and a starring role in PSG’s Champions League triumph, notably saving penalties and keeping five clean sheets in eight games at the Club World Cup.

However, Luis Enrique’s preference for a goalkeeper more adept at playing out from the back led to Donnarumma’s exclusion from PSG’s UEFA Super Cup squad against Tottenham, signaling the end of his time in the French capital. Donnarumma’s emotional farewell to PSG fans after a 1-0 Ligue 1 win over Angers further fueled speculation about his departure.
