"Financial Restrictions Crippled Aston Villa's Transfer Window, Says Konsa"
Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa has criticized financial restrictions for severely limiting the club’s activity in the summer transfer window.
The club’s only significant permanent signing was striker Evann Guessand from Nice for £26m, plus £4.3m in add-ons, completed in early August. Villa then sold academy graduate Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United for £40m.
On transfer deadline day, they added Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott and Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho on loan, alongside free agent Victor Lindelof, to bolster Unai Emery’s squad while navigating tight financial constraints.
In July, Uefa fined Villa for breaching financial regulations, with the threat of a Europa League registration ban if they didn’t achieve a positive transfer balance by the window’s end.
Additionally, like other
Premier League clubs, Villa must comply with profit and sustainability rules (PSR),
which cap losses at £105m over three years.
It’s crazy. I don’t fully understand it, but from the outside, it doesn’t look good. It’s really hurt us this transfer window,” said Konsa, currently with England on international duty.
