Germany fell to Slovakia in their World Cup qualifier opener in Bratislava.


David Hancko put Slovakia ahead just before halftime, sprinting from his own half, linking up with David Strelec, and slotting past goalkeeper Oliver Baumann.

Middlesbrough's Strelec doubled the lead 10 minutes into the second half, outmaneuvering Antonio Rudiger with deft footwork before curling a shot into the top corner.

This defeat marks only Germany's fourth loss in World Cup qualifying history. Despite fielding Liverpool's Florian Wirtz and Newcastle's new signing Nick Woltemade, Julian Nagelsmann's side struggled to create attacking chances
